Why paint looks tired

Most dull paint
is not damaged.

Paintwork that looks flat is usually covered in fine marks from years of washing, drying and general use. Under direct light these show as swirls and haze, and they scatter light instead of reflecting it.

Machine polishing refines the very top of the clear coat so light reflects cleanly again. Colours look deeper, metallics look sharper and the finish holds a reflection rather than looking flat.

Chris carries out single-stage enhancement, which is a considered improvement rather than a full multi-stage correction. Where a vehicle needs more, the machine polishing options are explained honestly before anything is booked.

The process

How the work is carried out

Four stages, each one dependent on the last. Nothing is rushed and nothing is promised that the paint cannot deliver.

  1. 01

    Assessment

The paint is inspected under lighting so you know what is realistic before any machine touches a panel.

  2. 02

    Wash and decontamination

Polishing dirty paint causes damage, so the vehicle is safely washed and chemically decontaminated first.

  3. 03

    Machine polishing

A single-stage enhancement refines the very top of the clear coat to bring back reflection and depth.

  4. 04

    Protection

Freshly refined paint is protected so the improvement lasts, with a ceramic coating available as an add-on.

Straight answers

What enhancement will and will not do

  • It reduces light swirl marks and haze, and improves gloss, depth and clarity.
  • It will not remove deep scratches that can be felt with a fingernail.
  • Paint is only ever refined as far as it can safely take — never further.
  • If a vehicle needs a single or two stage polish instead, Chris will say so before booking.

Questions

Paintwork questions

Paint enhancement is machine polishing carried out to reduce light swirl marks and dullness and to improve gloss and clarity. It improves the paint rather than promising to remove every defect.

No. Deeper scratches that can be felt with a fingernail usually go beyond what can safely be polished out. Chris will tell you honestly what can and cannot be improved on your vehicle.

Freshly polished paint should be protected. Options range from a sealant through to a ceramic coating, depending on how long you want the protection to last.

Yes. The work is carried out on location at your home or workplace, provided there is safe space around the vehicle and suitable conditions on the day.
