A single stage polish is one carefully matched pass that removes a good share of the fine marks and returns clarity and gloss. It suits paint in reasonable condition where the aim is a noticeably sharper finish.
A two stage polish adds a dedicated cutting stage before refining. It removes more defect, and the refining stage afterwards clears any haze the cut leaves behind. It suits older, neglected or heavily swirled paintwork.
Whichever level is chosen, paint is only refined as far as it can safely take. Chris will always give an honest view of the likely result before you commit.
The process
How a correction is carried out
Preparation takes as long as the polishing itself. That is what separates a lasting result from a quick shine.

Inspect and measure
Paint is inspected under lighting so the level of correction can be matched to what the clear coat can safely take.

Prepare the surface
Every trace of grit is removed before a machine touches the paint, otherwise polishing does more harm than good.

Cutting stage
On a two stage polish, a cutting combination removes a greater share of the defect before refining.
- 04
Refine and protect
The finish is refined to remove any haze, then protected so the work holds up to real use.

Straight answers
Straight talk about paint correction
- Clear coat is finite. Polishing removes a very small amount of it, so it is done sparingly and never repeated for the sake of it.
- Deep scratches that catch a fingernail usually cannot be removed safely.
- A two stage polish takes longer and costs more because it genuinely involves more work.
- Corrected paint should be protected afterwards, otherwise the finish is left exposed.

Machine polishing questions
Machine polishing refines the top layer of the clear coat to reduce fine marks left by previous washing, which restores reflection, depth and gloss.
A single stage polish uses one combination of pad and compound to improve the paint. A two stage polish adds a cutting stage first to remove more defect, followed by a refining stage to bring the finish back to full clarity.
It depends on the paint condition. Send photographs or let Chris inspect the vehicle and he will recommend the level of work that suits the paint, the result you want and your budget.
Carried out correctly, yes. Paint is assessed first and only refined as far as it can safely take. Chris trained through the UK Detailing Academy and is an IDA certified detailer.
